This was the first game I've played in the series and personally, I find this game amazing but way too hard. You see, how I play all the Devil May Cry games, I don't give a damn
about those stupid stylish points. I'm not a competitive gamer neither, I'm more of the 'fun play' gamer, or 'casual' gamer....Whatever you wanna call it.
Now, like I stated above, this Devil May Cry game was the first one I've played in the series when I 1st got my PS2. The reason that I got it was because I was searching for a sequel to a certain PS1 game that I loved (Soul Reaver), but couldn't find it.
Then my dad came across Devil May Cry and said that we should get it because he saw reviews of it on a show called Reviews on the Run (used to be called Electric Playground), it looks a little~ similar to Soul Reaver, and that it had an excellent rating.
So we get it, I found it to be like any PS1 game at first. Until I get to the first enemies, the Marionettes. This is what made me love the game. But since I wasn't a hardcore gamer at around that time, I did horrible....And it was on easy mode too, heheh...It took me approximately 5 tries to defeat each boss (I know, I sucked).
And to this day, I still find DMC1 to be pretty enjoyable but still pretty tricky on normal mode. And it is considered as my 2nd favourite Devil May Cry game in the series.
Positive:
- not bad of graphics for a 2001 game
- hard gameplay, which I both like and dislike, but mostly like
- has blood and gore (which is what makes this game extremely awesome and wish they got back into that for the other games)
- awesome music (techno-rock/metal baby!)
- really cool concepts (characters, weapons, atmosphere, etc.)
Negative:
- corny/cheesy script
- very hard gameplay (It always takes me a lot of tries on normal mode to defeat Mundus for the second time, which is when you're on the ground in a lava pit)
- wonky controls (Dante moves oddly and slow at times)
- bad voice acting (I found Trish's voice acting not bad though)
My rating -> 9.2/10
Overall rating from studios/reviewers -> 9.2/10

This post was in fact precisely what I was trying to find!
